Jin Yong Kim
Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) Ph.D. student at the University of Michigan, advised by Dr. Xi Jessie Yang.
Jin Yong is a PhD candidate in IOE dedicated to enhancing human trust in automated technology. As part of the “Engineering Detroit’s Future: Empowering Detroit’s Next Generation through Engineering Exploration” initiative, Jin Yong helped plan outreach activities, designed engaging activities for high school students, and led hands-on sessions during the event. In Summer 2025, the program successfully introduced Detroit high school students to engineering through interactive learning and broadened their perspective. Jin Yong draws inspiration from his previous experiences, where he encouraged K-12 students to pursue engineering through interactive outreach initiatives. These experiences have reinforced Jin Yong’s purpose in pursuing his work and motivated him to continue making a positive impact on young minds. Jin Yong strongly encourages students to get involved in engaged learning opportunities, as they provide valuable opportunities for self-exploration, exposure to research, skill development, defining potential career goals, and community building.
