Planting the SEED: Structuring Equity, Engagement, and Discourse

Part of CRLT’s Equity-focused Teaching @ Michigan Series
Many GSIs worry about keeping their students engaged with course material. Research in educational engagement theory shows that students are most engaged when they are active participants in their own learning (Kearsley and Shneiderman, 1998; Rachmad, 2022). This workshop explores foundational “rootwork” strategies for designing an interactive and dynamic classroom experience. We’ll discuss practical approaches to syllabus design, effective use of technology, and how to incorporate instructor interactions that foster deeper engagement.
